Screen Frame Plunger Pin

Aloha Swisco,

My awning window screens are all retained by metallic screen frame plunger pins. Most of them have rotted off due to the salt air and those that have not are frozen in place and inoperable. They seem to be dimensionally similar to the 70-009. It does not appear that they can be drilled out and I believe I would need to remove the screening in order to drill and install a replacement adjacent to the existing. The prospect of re-sceening all my screens is daunting to say the least. I thought perhaps the solution would be to go to 1/16" offset screen clips but I am not sure how I would secure them to my 3/8" thick vinyl frames and maintain the ability to rotate them. Do you have any recommendations?

Hi there Joe.

I would hate to have you rescreen or drill a new hole in the frame. I would suggest using a spray lubricant like WD-40 or Liquid Plumber and spray the pin for a few days to see if that loosens them up. I had the same situation with adjustment screws on the threshold. They were corroded and would not turn. I kept spraying WD-40 for a week until I could turn the screw. Lastly, you might also be able to cut off the pin using a set of Side cutters that they use to cut nails.
