Screw in Window

Home Owner from USA
I was trying to replace what I think is a single coil quick tilt balance in our bathroom window. However, I came across a problem - there is a screw sticking out and preventing the coil balance and brake from moving up to the cutout. It doesn't seem to be attached to anything - we can't unscrew it, push it in or pull it out. Do you have any suggestions for dealing with this? And do you think your parts match the parts in the photo?

Hello,

This looks like the screw used to adjust the window jamb when it is originally installed. The screw is meant to be completely hidden once it's installed but, in some cases, the window can become out of square once the house settles over time. This looks like a pretty severe case since the screw is no longer aligned with the jamb.

I would recommend hiring a professional to evaluate your window and determine what can be done to correct the problem. Thanks for posting and good luck with your repair!
