Searching for How to remove key from 82-229

Question

I've installed a Legacy keyed handle (82-086) along with mortise lock 82-229. Upon installation I proceeded to remove the keys from the handle (which came inserted from manufacturer) and I cannot get the lock mechanism to let go or release of the key. I've tried several times but it does not come out. I may have had to take those earlier before install but instructions were not clear on this step so I left in place throughout installation. Any input is appreciated.
