My house was built in 1987 has all Anderson slimline windows
The balancers strings are starting to brake at lest one side
I have 2questions, do I change both sides (because of age )
And how do I determine the correct balancer

We generally advise replacing the balances on both sides of a window, since when one balance fails the other usually isn't far behind. For Andersen balances, we need to see the sash balances removed from the window, with pictures of the stamp codes on the metal box, to identify what you need. This article here goes into detail.
