Searching for The balance spring has '100 & AE43'

I had to remove the lower sash bc it wouldn't move. When I did, I saw that one balance spring had snapped and the other was bent & disconnected. The spring has '100 & AE43' embossed on it. Where can I get replacement springs? I really want to get this window operating again because it's over the kitchen sink.

Thanks for posting. I'm confident we can replace this coil balance, but we need a little more information. Can you show me a picture of the pivot shoe within the window track that the coil spring(s) attach to, preferably removed from the window? Can you also confirm the thickness of the coil spring tape? For instance, is it 1/2" thick, or 3/8"? From there we should be able to narrow this down for you.

I took a measurement with my digital caliper. It 0.464 in.I hesitate taking down the sash again to remove the pivot shoe bc i have to climb on the sink to remove the sash and it's not too safe (I'm 77). But, If you really need to see it, I'll do it (reluctantly). BTW, the sash weighs 19 lbs.

Took pix of the pivot & balance on the identical window next to the one with the broken springs.

Thanks! These photos are a huge help, I don't think you'll need to take anything down.

With a spring in that size, and based on the design of the pivot shoe, my top recommendation would be our Series 160 coil spring. Your old stamp appears to be "10.0" so I would further suggest the S160-10, which is designed to carry 10 pounds per spring. That would mean your original sash would weigh 20 pounds.

Please let me know if you had any other questions and I'd be happy to advise. We also have a video on a similar type of assembly that may be helpful. The video features a triple spring system, not a single spring system like yours, but the principles remain the same.
