409 is stamped on my spring? Which new spring does that match?

I've never seen a Series 159 with that stamp. That's more common for something like our Series 170. Are you sure the Series 159 is what you have?

If you're uncertain, please upload a photo of your pivot shoe and spring and we can check our inventory for a match. The pivot shoe is the key detail. The spring alone won't be enough to accurately identify the part in question.

Thank you. Looks like you have the old Simonton brand coil balance assembly. I think I understand; are you following the instructions from our video below? This converts the old Simonton balance to the Series 159.

If so, then a stamp of 409 usually translates to 9 pounds per spring. That means you have an 18 pound sash.

With that in mind, I recommend using the 9.5 lb option for the Series 159. This adds up to 19 pounds, instead of 18, but it should be okay.

Just make sure to weigh your sash on a scale just to be sure.
