Setting the gears for the 82-317 lock

Had to take lock apart to repair a problem and in putting it back together, need some help in "timing the gears" to get it working properly. Outside key unlocks door (after locking it) to get in position for key removal. Can you give me some help in setting the gears to the proper position for normal operation? Thanks.

Thanks for posting. When you're realigning the gears, the first thing you want to do is make note of the letters L or R on the gear--which indicates that this is either the left or right handed lock. When you reinstall the gear, the letters must be in this same position. If you aren't sure of their original positions, try adjusting the gear so that the letters are in the 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock positions. Make sure to also apply a bit of lubricating grease to the smaller gear, as well.
