Shelby 666 door closer

Home Owner from San Antonio, Texas

My house is about 30-years old, I wouldn't doubt if this is original. I'd like to replace this with something similar or the same if possible.

The only marking is on the arm that attaches to the door frame, it is Shelby 666 (pictured).

This is for a residential door from the garage into the house, the door is solid wood.

Thank you

Bella

Thanks for posting, Bella. This storm door closer is no longer made, but we've recommended the 40-015 heavy duty storm closer in this past. This is normally used on the steel security storm doors and has a "torsion" bar attached to the air cylinder to help close the door. I cannot guarantee it will work, but we don't have anything closer. See what you think.

Also, before you replace yours, try lubricating your closer piston arm. That could help without needing to replace anything.

HI, can you help me understand how to adjust the tension of the SHELBY 666 door closer.

Here is the pix of the door closer install that I need the tension to adjust. THX!

Thanks for reaching out to us. I'm afraid that my response to Bella back in 2019 remains our only suggestion. I still cannot guarantee that this will work, but this part is just so old that I think it is the only possible option available to us. I am sorry for the inconvenience.

Hi - thanks for the advice. Is there a particular type of lubricant you'd recommend? Our closure isn't slowing down the closing speed anymore. Follow up is will the 40-015 fit in the original bracket, or will an entire assembly be required?

Hey there, hopefully I can help. The 40-015 that we talked about in this thread a few years back is unfortunately discontinued and no longer made, so the modern equivalent I'd suggest instead is our 40-128. If you wanted to use this heavy-duty storm door closer you will need to need to do a completely new installation for the different type of brackets used.

Take a look at the 32-507 door closer, as well. I have used this in the past with good results. Depending on how heavy your wood door is we also carry commercial door closers like the 79-252, which is used on door with a weight of 55 to 99 LBS.
