Simonton Window

Quick Learner from USA
I've attached pictures of all the window parts we talked about yesterday. I'm the one that needs to replace the balance assemblies of my double hung Simonton Window. I found all the comparable parts except the Series 171 coil because on the swisco site there's only options for 405, 406, and 407. But I need the 408. I weighed each pane and they're 30lbs each. Let me know what you think!

Hello! Thanks for reaching out to us. While the Certainteed brand 15-192 does work on the Simonton window, there are a couple details that prevent it from being a perfect fit. Namely, it's a little too thick, so shaving down its face is necessary to slide comfortably in the track. It also won't be compatible with the Simonton pivot bar you have now.

Considering this, and considering that we don't currently sell the 408 stamp for the Series 171, I feel obligated to recommend an alternative option. We have a more modern replacement that I think works just as well, if not better, since it's not prone to breaking in half like your old shoe did.

The video below will go into more detail. This will explain exactly what parts you need to buy and how you can install them in your window. Just note that you will need the exact weight of your sash on hand in order to calculate the proper spring strength, since these are calibrated a little differently. You want to divide that weight by how many springs support the sash, then pick accordingly.

At the end of the day it will be a little more time and effort, but it's a better guarantee and it will be much less prone to breaking in the future.
