Single hung aluminum window

A home owner from Stinson Beach Ca. says:
My windows are very stiff and difficult to open and close is there a way to lubricant to make easier to work?

Sure, there are two things you could try. First, I would spray the track with silicone. Not the balance, but just the track in which it rides. If you think the balance itself needs lubrication then you could apply white grease to the spring.

If all that fails, though, then it may simply be time for new balances.
