Tighten the thumbscrew and it keeps the window from opening.

The name of the item is "Sliding Window Lock". There are various sizes - some with two thumbscrews. Some with a rubber insert so it will not mar the windows. Once you know to search for "Sliding Window Lock", there are plenty of choices available.
