We'd be happy to look into this for you but we would like to start by having you write out the exact distance between the installation hole centers of your handle set. We'd also like to see the handle removed from the door to see the underside of the plate and the door itself where the handle mounts. This will show us how the thumb lever interacted with the mortise lock, which is a key detail. Thank you!
