It sounds like you need a new mortise lock. Consider either our 82-214 or 82-211, depending on the size you need. I am confident that one of these will work on your door, you'll just need to compare dimensions.

How do I measure the old latch to determine which latch I need?

Is it the width of the latch, the height or both measurements?

Tom from SWISCO responded:

Hey, Lynn. We have detailed dimensions on the store page for both parts that you can review. They will show you exactly how they differ and exactly how you need to measure to confirm the best match. I will also post them here for your convenience.
