Sliding glass door handle & mortise lock

Home Owner from Albuquerque, New Mexico
Hello,
These photos are from my Aunt's home. I'd guess the door is 25 years old. Recently she was unable to get the lock to engage the fixed side in the door frame. My guess is the mortise lock is worn out?
I have been looking at your website, the closet match is 82-218 but it is pointed at the top & this one is rounded. Do you have any other ideas or suggestions?
Assuming you don't have anything that matches, would it do any harm to the operation of the lock if I filed the pointy top to a smooth curve?

Hello, thank you for posting,

It appears the door uses the 82-218 mortise lock. The pointed ends are hidden inside the door frame leaving the rounded part exposed. Please review the dimensions and take a look at the installation video below to see if the lock matches up correctly.

Let us know if you have any additional questions! If you need to replace the handle set as well, can we see additional pictures of the interior and exterior style and where the thumb lever is located?

I think it would be wise to replace the door handle. The center to center measurement of the screw on the current handle is 3 7/8".

Thank you,

We do not carry a handle with a 3-7/8" spacing. The best we can supply is the 82-030 with a 3-15/16" spacing as shown below. Please double check dimensions and let us know what you think!
