Slipping balance

A home owner from Olympia WA says:
I installed spiral balances S500-33 using #32 brackets two years ago. The spirals no longer stay in the bracket. When the sash is raised the spiral pops out and unwinds to the bottom of the window. The bracket seems slightly twisted. The spiral seems straight. What should I do?

Paul from SWISCO responded:
Hmm... it's possible that the back legs of your 17-012 might be too far spread apart to securely lock the bottom of the spiral balance. Look them over and see if that could be the problem. Out of curiosity, how many times did you wind the balance when you installed it? One issue may be that the tension on the balance is too high. That might have caused the twist in the bracket that you mentioned.
