Sourcing casement operators

Home Owner from Tyler, Tx

Hi there, I am looking to replace the casement operators on seven windows: two left-handed, five right-handed. I also need to replace some hinges. I have my questions organized at the end of this email.

The measurements marked in the pictures are from end-to-end. I had trouble getting an exact measurement, so they are to the closest inch. I cannot find any markings on the existing hardware. The covers and handles are in good condition.

After looking at your products, the 39-253LB and the 39-253RB look about right. My windows do use a square slider, seemingly comparable to the 39-529.

I also need to replace some of the hinges, the arm of which is marked "C" in my pictures. I have several of the "C" elements that are rusted on the window-end, and one that is completely rusted in two. There is also a bracket to which "C" connects on the bottom of the window which needs replacing. This bracket (but not the rust) is shown, circled in light blue, in a picture.

Can you confirm that the 39-253LB and the 39-253RB would fit?

Can you direct me to the hinge (C)?

Can you suggest a good weather stripping, since I have a rust problem?

Do you need any more information from me?

Thank you so much in advance for your help! Home ownership has been wearing me down lately, so I really do appreciate your time and expertise.

Hello,

I agree that your operator resembles one of the Encore-style assemblies shown in the video below. The determining factor would be the style of the fitting attached to the end of the long arm.

As for your hinges, see the (10") 36-048 or (14") 36-049 depending on the length of the base of your hinge that attaches to the window sill.

If you need new weatherstripping as well, we'd need to see an end profile photo of the original seal uninstalled to compare to our inventory.

Thanks so much for the information Casey!

As for the hinges, the base of my hinges on the sill side is 13" (pictures attached), and the base on the sash side is 5 1/2". The diagonal part of the hinge is 10". The 36-048 and 36-049 don't appear to me to fit. The closest I can find is the 36-090-13. If I am misled in that assumption, please set me straight.

Some of my windows only need one hinge replaced, while others will require both be replaced.
If the 36-090-13 (or whichever hinge you advise) has differences from my existing hinges, should I be concerned if, for example, I replace the bottom hinge only on one window, that the window will not hinge properly? Put another way, if I have one damaged hinge on a window, do I need to replace both?

I found the correct weather stripping, thanks.

Thanks again for your help. Your website and videos are fantastic!

I agree that the 36-090-13 would be a good replacement option as long as the specifications below match yours. In any case, we recommend replacing the top and bottom hinges at the same time to ensure the sash is equally supported.

Hi Casey, me again with one more question.

I had ordered the 58-198 weather stripping, but I didn't realize it lacked a full-length fin seal.

I haven't been able to find any, but I thought I would ask. Do you sell a pile weather stripping with 3/16 base and 7/16 pile height with a 7/16 fin seal?

Thanks!

Welcome back. Unforutnately, we do not carry a version of the 58-198 with the fin but that won't be a deal breaker. The fin provides a bit more structure to the pile but the 58-198 should still work as long as the dimensions match up to yours.
