Spiral balance tilt out window. Spring not broken but rod came loose from spring. What holds rod to spring?

If the rod came loose in the balance, then the balance is broken. You will need to replace it entirely.
Since this is a tilt window, you have either the Series 900 (3/8" diameter tube) or Series 600 (9/16" diameter tube).
