2 scenarios:
I have a couple windows where the window will not stay in an open position and the spiral balance is visible (when the window is open) it sit along side of the track where the would be if closed. Is this in need of just a "shoe"?? Or the entire balance?
I have one window is very difficult to lift up and down and the spiral balance is not visible . Entire window balance??
All windows are from 2003, aluminum fram double pain, single hung, tilt in bottom dash only.
Thank you for your time

Balances from 2003 aren't that old, so your they might just need an adjustment. Check out the guides on the right side of this page, I think they'll help you out a lot. We use the 75-006 adjusting tool for tilt window spiral balances.

Thank you for the advice and quick response. One other detail I forgot to mention, on 2 of the windows the actual spiral portion of the balance sits in the track (no cover-I can count all the spiral rings for the entire length of the balance as if it came out of the "cover" ??)

It could be your balances once had a plastic cover, which grew brittle and cracked off over the years. All of our balances have metal tubes, so this doesn't happen.

I did notice the metal piece attached to the bottom of the window that insert into the shoe is broken on a couple windows . What is this piece called and do you sell it?

Sure, this part is known as a pivot bar. You can see our entire selection here.
