Spiral balance came out of pivot lock shoe.

A handy person from Illinois says:

Hi - Just moved into a 20 year old townhouse, not sure what brand of windows I have . The spiral balance came out of the pivot lock shoe and I cannot get it back into the shoe. Hopefully you can tell if the shoe is broken or damaged by the photo. I tried to take the shoe out of the track but it looks like it is not removable unless I destroy it. Is there a replacement shoe that will fit my spiral balance and I can insert it to to the window sash?

Thank you for your time and advice.

Michael

Hello, Michael. Both your balance and shoe appear to be in good condition. I don't see any damage that would prevent the balance from connecting properly. I would try again, but you may find a tool like our 75-006 helpful to this end.

It shouldn't be necessary to destroy the shoe just to take it out of the window. There is usually a cutout in the track that allows you to pop it out with a screwdriver. If no such cutout exists then you must make one. The video below will go into more detail.
