Spiral balance with a support

A handy person from Connecticut says:

5/8 spiral balance 22" the support is old and brittle. Not sure of the weight of the sash. Looking to buy everything new already connected.

There is a small flat aluminium piece that connects the balance and the support. That's the part keeps breaking

Hello! This looks like our S500-22 spiral balance. The small flat metal piece you describe is the bottom bracket. You may be able to use our 17-012, which looks like it's the same style.

I'm not sure why yours keep breaking. What's the time span between repairs? These should last a good number of years. If your balance springs aren't properly calibrated to the weight of the sash then that may be causing the issue. Your old balance here has a Red Tip, which indicates that your sash weight will be 6 through 19 pounds. That's a pretty generous range, but if your sash is heavier then that may be your problem.
