Spiral window balance replacement.

Question

Is it possible that if you have a beefer balance it would over power the window? How do I know which one is the right one for the weight of the window sash? My bottom window sash is 33" w x 23" h. The balance is 22" long and I think it's 5/8". All of my window balances broke and I was thinking that they probably couldn't hold the weight. But I would be just guessing on that.

Yes, having a balance spring that's heavier than you need could make the window harder to operate. Based on your dimensions, it sounds like you have a S600-22 tilt window spiral balance. We have a list of tip colors which displays how much weight each they can support, so all you need to do is weigh your sash and cross-reference that list.
