Spring Mechanisms

The spring mechanism is broken in most of our windows. The plastic parts have disintegrated. The windows themselves are fine.

The balances you have here an older, discontinued block and tackle balance. We very likely have a replacement for your balances, but there are some details you'll need to gather from an undamaged balance so that we can make an accurate recommendation.

To start, you'll need a fully compressed balance to confirm the exact length the replacement would need to be. If you do not have access to an undamaged balance, I'll need to know the measurement for the height of the visible glass. This should be only the glass you can see.

I'll also need to see photos of the top and bottom attachments that should be on the balance. The bottom attachment is likely to be left behind in the window channel.

Please also confirm the exact weight of the sash. We'll need to know this to confirm the weight range the balance replacements will need to be able to support.

Thanks for the additional photos and information. The only piece of information you'll still need to obtain is the exact weight of your sash. This is the only way to determine the stamp option needed for your balances; you'll need this to select your option from the chart below the product description of the balance.

That said, I believe your balances can be replaced with the S795-35 Channel Balance. To confirm that this is the right fit, you'll need to double check the length of your existing balance. Take a look at the video tutorial for reference.

Since your balance has the clip at the top of the window, you'll also need the 26-200 Balance Screw Plug and the 33-016 screw to install the balance. There is a video tutorial regarding this part tagged below this thread.

Thanks for confirming! Assuming the length of the balance is correct, you can select the 35C stamp option.

Please feel free to reach out with any other questions you might have.
