I have heavy 38# sash's. Hurricane glass. They have 4 29" springs on each window. Ten years old.
One small dia spring and one lg dia Spring on each side of the sash. I have bought your adjuster tool and watched your videos and increased the tension on the Windows. I can bearly open them;and my
Wife not at all. Is it time to replace the spiral springs? If so do I need four springs per window? I also need some new pivot blocks.

Thanks for contacting us. If adjusting the balances didn't do any good, then it is likely time for new balances. The lifespan of spiral balances is roughly 10-15 years, but considering your windows are extra heavy I think it's safe to cut that off at the head a little.
I see you were looking at two different balances, our S600-29 and S900-29. To be honest, I've never heard of the thicker and thinner balances both being used at the same time. That must have been a last-minute decision by the original installers. Stuff like that happens all the time. Our rule of thumb is to always go with exactly what was installed originally, just in case. If it worked for ten years it'll probably work again now.
The only issue I can think of is what color tip option to choose. Are your original color tips still readable? If so, go with what you have now. That would be the easiest and most reliable way to go. If not, it's gonna be a lot trickier. We can try to calculate what color tip option you should use for both. Let me know.
