Storm door glass retaining strip

Handy Person from Charleston, SC

Hello,

We have recently moved into a home that has a full view storm door with interchangeable screen/glass panels. Although there is a groove around the frame for retaining strips, there are no strips installed on the door. Instead, someone has drilled holes through the screen frame and screwed the screen to the door frame. This works fine for the screen, but we would like to be able to switch between the screen and glass panels conveniently. There are no markings on the door, so I don't know who the manufacturer is.

I have included some photos of the groove in the door frame and a drawing that shows a cross-sectional view of the frame with dimensions. Please look these over and see if you can come up with a retaining strip that will work. I appreciate any help you can offer.

Thank you,

Derek

Hello,

Unforutnately, we do not carry storm door retainers that fit around the frame since door companies change the type of retainer strip they use almost every year, making it impossible to stock them. We suggest using a 70-180 storm door clip and drilling a hole for a 33-020 screw. Take a look and see what you think.

Thank you, Dave,
I have been looking at similar products, but haven't been able to find any with the reach I needed to contact the frame of the glass. That 7/16" long arm is perfect for the job. I will definitely keep this in mind if I can't find the actual strips. Thanks again for your time.
