Hello, I just ordered the Out-Swinging Door Handle Set, Round, 1-1/2" Product Code: 40-032 to replace an old one. I'm replacing an old one that just broke. It fits like a glove, but I'm having trouble.
I have everything together and when I put the screws in and tighten them the door push button doesn't move in and out so I basically cannot lock the door, it kind of gets stuck. Also the spindle, how do I know where to cut it? I read online that I am supposed too. the instructions for this kit do not say to cut it to length according to your door width. Can someone please get back to me? Appreciate it.
Thank you so much,
Bernard

Sounds like all your problems center around the spindle. What I've done to determine the length of the spindle is install it in the button, install the handle on the door, and mark it at one line past the hole in the door. That's where you want to cut. Remember not to press in the button when marking the spindle or it won't be accurate.
If you're not sure, you can always cut it a little longer then you think and if it still doesn't work you can still cut a little more. Worse comes to worse, you can try to dig up your old spindle and simply match the size to that.
