Tailpiece

I'm retrofitting a door with a keyed lock for the outside. The legacy style seems to be the correct fit. I do not understand how the tailpiece from the cylinder lock and the similar part from the inside handle work together since the opening in the mortise lock is not large enough for both to fit in the slot. What am I missing here?

I am sorry I am having a little bit of a hard time trying to figure out what you may be missing. Both the thumb lever tail and key cylinder tail fit into the same 45 degree slot in the 82-218. If it's not fitting the way it's supposed to, then we may have to consider that this may have not been the right part for you. Send us some photos and measurements of your original part and we will take a look and go from there.

I have not received the parts yet however on similar parts I have here the tailpiece is .078" thick and the slot is .108 so no room for two tabs.
I hope the picture helps explain my quandary.

The two tail pieces aren't meant to stack on top of each other in that slot. They're supposed to meet in the middle, butted up against one another. You have to cut both tail pieces down to the proper size.
