This is a window that stides up.  The string that attaches broke and I assume that what I call a spring was not able to stretch enough.

Looks like you need a channel balance of some kind, though I don't recognize it based on these photos. Can you tell me where in the window frame this installs? Can you also show me a picture of the clip, hook, or shoe that was at the end of the cord? If it snapped off then you will need to use an undamaged version as a reference.
