Hi:
The house we live in was built in 1997. The two wood double hung windows only have the MW on the lock. There are no other numbers anywhere to identify them. These are regular windows that the contractor would have put on the first floor, instead they went into the walk-out basement. He said he ordered two extra windows by mistake.
Is there anyway that they can be repaired? The sash is broken on both, and I would guess any other parts, that make the window move. They do not swing out. I prefer to keep the cost down and side step replacing the entire window(s).
Regards,
Ernie
There are no numbers on the window.

Hi, Ernie. It's hard to say what might be wrong. Can you send some photos of the relevant parts of your window? We'd like to see the window jamb, where the window sashes slide, as well as the sash balances, if you can identify what and where they are.

Mike:
Where would I find a cable like the one pictured? It should include the two end pieces? The top end attaches to the window frame. The bottom end attaches to the top of the window and and it rides the window up/down. It seems that several springs weakened over time, so it would be to my benefit to purchase eight cables or for each window.
I replied this morning and my solution it went to Ref# D91685.

Ernie

Ah, I see. I'm afraid we won't be able to help replace this kind of hardware. You will need to contact a local mill work who still makes wood windows so that they can replace the jamb liners for you.
