Thermal gard windows

Handy Person from USA
We installed thermal gard windows (T-55model) for several years and have had a lot of problems with the pivot shoes.

We are in a rural agriculture area with a lot of fine dirt and dust which finds its way on top of the cam then when it is rotated to wash the window the debris is turned into the space around the cam and it freezes up. Even to the point that the red cam simply splits when you move the window to release it.

We have gone out and replaced the entire pivot shoe assembly, but in a few years the problem presents itself again. Any thoughts or suggestions for a real solution I can send you several examples of what they look like after failing. Un-happy CornHusker !!!

Ah, I'm familiar with your problem. The pivot shoe I think you are talking about is our 15-070. Does that look familiar to you? Either way, do not use oil to lubricate the shoe or tracks, because that attracts sand and dirt. I think you'll be better off with a silicone spray.

Paul , thanks for your input. And yes the "pivot shoe" looks familiar. I will like to purchase at least two units soon. But first what about the "wire type" metal rods that they are attached to? would they need to be replaced ?

Also, could you recommend any dealer, outlet , or company located near me that could come to my home and "take a look" at my troubled window. that would be a big help.

Also, any advice to make the opening and closing mechanism located on the horizontal sash of the window operate more smoothly ? The side to side movement necessary open and close , luck or umlock the window gets stuck a lot. Thanks, Mike

Hello, Mike. I'd be happy to address your questions, but I'm afraid I don't know exactly what kind of balance system you're working with. A "wire type" balance is not something I've ever heard of. I think it would be best if we start with photos, both of the balance and of the closing mechanism that you mentioned.

As for a dealer near you, I'm not familiar with you're area. We're located down here in South Jersey right by Philadelphia. I'm not acquainted with many businesses in your neck of the woods unfortunately.
