Tilt Window Lock Shoe

Unknown window manufacturer. Measured lock shoe thickness is 23/64" (3/8). Width is 15/16". Think part # 15-212 should work. Are black cams all the same or do I need to measure the cam? Thank you

Thanks for posting. To be honest I rarely worry about the cam color when it comes to these pivot shoes. What matters more is simply if the cam's shape matches. Additionally, besides the width and thickness of the shoe, the overall design of the shoe is important. Therefore, I think the 15-045 is the better choice for you, since it has that 'offset' in its body seen with your old shoe. Yes, it is 1" wide, but I suspect the shoe is measuring slightly less than that due to age and wear. The 15-045 would be my choice, but take a look and let me know what you think.

Thanks, that was on my list for possibilities as well. Didn't see any measurements for the cam hole size so, assumed the color may have a purpose. I'll get it on order.

Sure, I can get that size for you. The 15-045 is designed to accept a pivot bar with a 1/4" x 3/16" tip, like our 26-297. This isn't as wide as the cam hole on the 15-212, which is designed to take a 5/16" x 3/16" pivot bar.

Eyeballing your photo, I don't think your cam is quite that wide, so the 15-045 would still be my pick. If that hole is a different size, though, then just let me know and we can look into other options.

Thanks for the help. Ordered the 15-045 and it is an exact match other than the cam color.

How much can you wind the balances, is there a general rule like no more than 10 turns?They seem like they could be easily over wound and break.

I've cleaned and sprayed dry lube on the frame. Attempting to get the window to open very easy for my 87 year old mother can open it.

Hello! I'm glad to hear that the 15-045 was a match. As for winding the balance, you should feel tension build after 2-3 turns. I wouldn't give it more than another two or so turns after that; so in other words, I never wind it more than 5 times. If you don't feel tension build after that many turns then you may not have the right strength option for the window. You're right when you observe that you can over-charge a spiral balance, too. Too many turns and you will snap the rod right out.
