Tilt latch window release
Sandy
Take a look at our 26-234 to start out and see if this could possibly work for you. Carefully go over our dimensions and see what you think.
This is the correct part for my window, however I'm not
sure how to install without possibly breaking off one or
both of the "legs" that go into the frame.
How can you recommend I do the job.
As long as the inside actuator is clear, you would press down the 26-234 tilt latch legs into the opening. Once it's locked in, it won't come out without breaking it. The designers of these parts did not intend for them to be repaired, I'm afraid.
That would indeed help, but I'm afraid that's not something we have control over. The manufacturer does it this way because, truth be told, they'd rather you replace the whole window instead of one tiny part. I don't think they'll change their minds on the matter until replacing a tiny part becomes more profitable than replacing an entire window.
Fortunately, it's not necessary to replace the whole window and we sell a bunch of these little parts. Our philosophy is that there's always a little fix for everything. I'm just sorry we can't offer an easier solution!
In the future might the material of this actuator be
changed, a plastic with some flex, would be a great help
for anyone installing this part.
