Tilt window Channel Balance Identification

Home Owner from The Colony, TX
My channel balances are 1/2 inch wide and 26 inches long. There's a clip on one end but nothing on the spring end of the one I have off. The smooth side has 27B BSI stamped on it. I need to replace these in several windows and want to ensure I have the right balance and any other necessary parts or tool. I need to identify the correct balance and get any tips on replacing these. Thanks. Frank

Hey Frank. I think we can help, but I need a little more information to get started. First off, does that clip attach to the top of the window jamb? If so, can you show us how? If so, there should be there something at the bottom of the balance--another attachment or shoe. Is there an undamaged version you can show us? Finally, a balance stamped 27B is usually 27" long. Can you confirm the length of the metal channel? From there we'll see if we can narrow this down. Thank you.

Thanks Bob. I found a video on YouTube for windows like mine and I'm pretty sure my problem is with the pivot shoe lock and not with the spring. I took pictures of one that is unbroken. If you can help me with the part number I want to order several of those. And to your question the top hooks up top into the window channel and the bottom into the pivot shoe lock.

Hey there! Bob's not here today but I should be able to help you. That shoe you have in your hand is a match for our 15-195. If that's all you need, then you can just pop this on your old balance to get it working again. They really do just snap on and off.

If you do end up needing a whole new balance, though, then it'll have to be custom made. I can do that for you, I just need to know the quantity you wanted to purchase. Note that when that shoe breaks, it's typically a sign that the balance isn't too far behind. You may be able to squeeze a year or two out of it for now, but it's just something to keep in mind.
