Tilt windows won't stay open

A home owner from Greensboro, NC says:
I know this is a frequent question but I am not sure what I need to do to fix this. I have several double hung tilt windows made by Napco. The spiral balances are the red ones and they are attached to the pivot shoes. The shoes are old and dirty but they seem intact. Do I just need to tighten the balances? Or do I need to replace everything? Thanks.

If the window won't stay open, it's possible your balances might just need a charge. I recommend using our 75-006 charging tool. See the video below for instructions on how to do this.

Keep in mind that in your case, you will need to remove the screw in the shoe in order to remove the spiral so that you can charge it. Make sure not to charge it more than 3 or 4 times. If you find you have to charge it more than that, then it's probably time for a new balance.
