Tool and hardware to open the top sash of a Double Hung window

Home Owner from Quarryville, PA
We have a standard double pain window. At present, the only way to lower the top to let air circulate is to reach around the lower window and pull down the top. But the edge is narrow and it's not easy to do. I can push it back up to close with a stick of wood but I'm worried about pushing on the inside narrow ledge.

In grade school, in an old building, we had a long pole with a special end that fit into a hole in the window frame. I can't make a hole in my present window without breaking the seal of the window, but I'm hoping that you have something that I can fasten to the top of the frame that would allow me to do the same thing.

Hello,

We'd be happy to try to help you find a solution to your problem, but we'll need to see some pictures of your window. Once we see what you're working with, we may be able to point you in the right direction. Thank you!

When the window is closed there is a 1 inch reveal. In that reveal is a 1/2 inch trough with edges that could easily hold a fixture for raising and lowering the window.

I'm afraid you can't drill a hole in the top rail without hitting the glass. You have a welded window and the insulated glass goes into the frame at least 1/2" or more.

I'm afraid we don't sell anything like that. There isn't anything on the market that comes to mind that matches that description. It sounds like you would need something specially made for your specific needs. I think you would be better off contacting a local hardware store to see if they can make something for you.

I don't want to drill a hole. I want some kind of a fixture, with a hole or peg, that could be glued with a strong epoxy into that though at the top of the window.

I would then need a 6 foot pole with an end that could temporally attach to that fixture to raise and lower the upper pain of the window
