Top hinge rusted out & fell apart

A quick learner from CA says:

Hi... I found your site because I needed a couple crank handles. When I went to open the window and I realized it was rusted out and the top hinge that keeps the top corner of the window and place fell off and broke (see pictures 1 and 2). Can you please tell me what part I need to replace it?

If you have the part, will it come with installation instructions?

Many thanks, Larry

Hello! Looks like you need new operators and a new hinge. For the operators, see our 39-187 and 39-188. For the hinge, see our 36-048. Now, the hinge may be a little different compared to your original, but as long as you replace the top and bottom at the same time then you should be fine.

They don't come with installation instructions but you may find the video below to be helpful.

Thx for the reply.. The screws are completely rusted out. Do you have any suggestions I'm getting the screws out? Should I drill them out? Thanks in advance! Larry

Well, drilling them out is definitely an option but that's more of an emergency, last-ditch kind of thing. The first thing you should try is soaking them in WD-40 overnight to see if that loosens them up. Nine times out of ten that will do it.

If not, then your next step should be to visit a local hardware store. Think of a mom and pop shop, not a big box store. Ask them if they sell anything in particular that could help you get those screws out. Every pro has their own way of handling troublesome screws like this so I'm sure they'll have a few tips for you.
