Looking to replace the window crank which seems stripped, doesn't open the window when turning and often falls off

Hi - happy to do a video call if needed. Photos attached, though I am curious since I see some screws holding the inside plate on, how does this actually get removed? I don't see how to get to the screws on the inside so wondering if it comes off from the exterior of the window in one piece or if wood will need to be removed? Thanks!
