Trying to find a tilt latch replacement

Home Owner from Great Mills, MD

So I've been on a journey to try to replace a broken tilt latch in one of my windows.

I first tried one bought from Lowe's and it fit in the slot, but the spring mechanism didn't work. When I inserted it into the slot, the piece of plastic that is supposed to spring back doesn't. Some kind of tension on the plastic housing was preventing the spring to release.

The second one I tried is a 7380RD from shopyst (I got help from Vision Hardware to find a sash lock and keeper exact replacement). When I installed the tilt latch in the window, the spring mechanism worked as in it released after I let go of the latch, but the triangle width was too wide.

So I took some calipers and made measurements between the house window and the 7380RD. Was wondering if you have something that I could try.

The 7380RD triangle width is about 0.57". My windows is about 0.45 - 0.46". There's too much difference to effectively file off the plastic.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for your time.

Hello,

Unfortunately, your latch was discontinued back in 2018 and an alternative was never offered to my knowledge. The best alternative we can offer would be the 26-243 and 26-244. We have recommended these to replace your old-style latches in the past and were told that they worked well.

With that being said, we can't guarantee that it would work for you since the tooth size could be an issue. Our replacements aren't curved like yours is, which is designed to accommodate the balance in the track. Depending on your balance, the straight tooth may very well get in the way. Take a look and see what you think.
