Trying to identify part

The lever broke off and I am trying to identify who makes this part for replacement. I imagine I have to replace the entire luck, I?m just not sure where to find it. When this latch broke off part of the pin stood inside. Tried to use tweezers to remove. Can I just replace the latch or do I need the whole handle?

Thanks for writing in. You may be able to use our 82-107 sliding door latch kit to replace your existing latch. I am afraid these are only available in white. I notice you said that the pin is stuck in the handle set. We have never heard of something like this happening. There is not a real trick on removing it from the handle. If you find great difficulty in removing it, you may want to try and contact a local hardware store to see if they can provide any assistance with the removal of the pin.

Do you think your latch is compatible with the door if I can get the part stuck in the hole out? Are these locks pretty much all the same design (ie latch, washer, pin)? It also appears that the holes do not line up, that the hole for the latch is in the middle on 82-107 and is towards the bottom on mine. If I can?t get the pin out and tried to replace both parts would yours still work?

You are going to have to remove the handle to fix or replace it. At that point you will probably be able to simply push the pin, tail, shaft, whatever you want to call it, out from the outside to the inside.

I agree with our friend from California. Once you remove the old handle set, you should be able to easily remove the old bits so that you can install the new hardware.

I don't want to say that these locks are all the same design, since you never can tell when some manufacturer makes something weird and different, but I feel confident saying that they all work under similar principles.

Thank you for your response. When we took the handle off we were able to pull the pin out. I purchased the latch with the pin and it turned out that was the only part we needed to replace. The pin on the new piece was a different length but I was able to use the pin from the old latch. It appears that the metal where the pin goes into the latch is a weak point. Thank you for responding so quickly and for your help.
