Tubular spiral window balance
Do I need any other parts to connect the springs to the windows. The old ones simply hooked on.
Thank you.
Hello there!
For your wood sash, we don't have a 5/8" balance with a bent hook at end of the spiral. For wood sashes we have Series 500. The tube is 5/8" and the spiral has a bow tie at the end. I don't believe you could remove the bow tie and bend the spiral to a hook.
We would recommend the S500-25 balance with the 17-012 bracket that is attached on the bottom of the sash and the bow tie hooks to the bracket. I can't make any promises but it may be worth considering atleast. Below are generic directions for the installation.
For your wood lower sashes, these brackets hook on the balance spiral. To install these balances, you would drop them from the top on the side of the sash and use the 33-017 screw to attach the balance tubes at the top. Now raise the sash and have someone hold it up while you attach the bottom bracket, the 17-012 with the 33-090 screw, while the U-shape opening corrals the spiral. With your finger bring up the spiral to the bracket and attach the 75-005 tool, turn the spiral clockwise three turns and hook it to the fork of the bracket. Repeat the other side and try the sash. If the sash creeps down, raise and hold up the sash and give the balances another turn or two.
