How do I measure the area where the replacement mortise lock will go.
I need 2 units.

Your mortise looks like our 82-218 at first glance, but looking at where it used to install I can see the outline of a face plate. This face plate is missing from your photos, and I assume from existence as well.

Start by looking at our 82-226 to start out. This may be what you want, but check the distance between the two installation holes (center to center) to confirm that they match the hole spacing on your door.

orig ref num D172622. The parts recommended seem too big.
I measured between to 2 small screw holes on the face of the
mortise. They measure 3 3/4 inches apart I added 2 new pics
with the face plate included. Thanks for the fast reply.
I want to get this right.

Looking at these photos, I'm just about positive the 82-226 is what you want. I recommend double checking your dimensions just to be sure. You don't want to measure the two small screw holes, but rather the larger outer ones.
