Unknown Door Handle

A quick learner from Columbus, OH says:
Just moved into new home. Handle broken. Need to replace handle and mortise lock. Do not necessarily need keyed lock. Current handle is SASH 2260. 3-15/16 holes. Does not appear to me that correct mortise was previously installed. Any advice?

Hello,

Your photos resemble the 82-087 handle set and 82-218 mortise lock. Take a look and compare the specifications on our product pages to yours.

One strange thing is that the cut-out for your mortise lock does not appear to have any installation holes. Could you confirm how the mortise was held in the door before you removed it? Thank you.

A quick learner from Columbus, OH says:
I don't think it was installed properly. It was simply held with the keeper on the lock mechanism. It was otherwise loose. I'm trying to figure out which mortise is the correct one to use. Possibly a double mortise?
Also, is there a comparable handle without the lock?

Your handle set looks like the 82-087 with an external key lock. We also carry the 82-089 non-keyed handle set but it is not available in the same metallic finish.

As for the internal mortise lock, take a look at the 82-244 and see if the dimensions shown below will fit your door's specifications.

Do you have installation instructions for the 82-244?
I am still not clear on how the mortise attaches to the door. Do I need to simply drill into the door, and create the holes?

I'm not exactly sure what type of mortise lock you originally had in your patio door since there are no installation holes to accommodate the 82-218 mortise shown in your last photo. I'm going by the shape of the oval cut-out at the edge of your door. The 82-244 mortise lock has the same oval shape. You'll need to determine if the door cut-out has the same 7/8" width and 4-9/16" height. There should be mounting holes already inside the cut-out in the door to secure the 82-244. Take a look at the video on how to install the 82-218 mortise latch. The installation is similar to the 82-244.
