Unknown spiral balance part...

I have successfully replaced the spiral balances on several of my windows but now need to replace them on another window that I originally overlooked. The bottom sash on this other window has red tip 25" spiral balances and the top sash has red tip 23" spiral balances. Two questions... 1) is that usual that the top sash has shorter balances and 2) the 23" balances for the top sash have an additional 1/2" block as shown in the attached photos. It's not clear what this block is or if it needs to be replaced.

Hello,
It is possible for the top and bottom window balances to be different lengths if the sashes are sashes are different sizes.
As for the part shown in your photos, it looks like your balance may be using an aligner like the 26-139 shown below. Review the specifications below to compare to yours. If you are able to remove the aligner and determine that it's still in good shape, you should be able to reuse it. Thanks for posting!
