Upgrade

Question

I currently have this latch installed, which looks close to your part #82-008K. I would like to upgrade to something more like your part #82-087. I wonder if this is possible. Is there a conversion kit? Could some minor alteration or fabrication make it work?

Hello, John. Unfortunately, that won't be possible. Your door was only made to work with this specific type of lockset. No conversion is possible, since after you remove the original there will be a huge hole left in your door. Even if you patch that hole, your door still doesn't have the space for the mortise lock necessary for something like the 82-087 to work.

I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news. As long as you have this door, you are more or less stuck with the style of lock you have now.
