Using silicone caulking before using glazing

I have metal window frames and I would like to know if it would be better to use a silicone caulking to set the window in place then use the traditional glazing on the opposite side.

I personally don't like to use pure silicone on a project like yours since it would be difficult to repair broken glass later on. I like to use a combination silicone and latex, like Phenoseal. Check a local hardware store and see if they have any recommendations for you.
