Vertical window / missing part

Hi. I hope you can help me resolve a kitchen window that is missing a part. because of this, the window hangs down on one side. One photo shows the part in place at the top of the window. The other photo shows where the part USED to be and which is now missing. I believe this is causing the malfunction.
What is your advice (other than cleaning the window!)?

Hmm....not sure that piece would keep the window sash up. It actually looks like it would keep the sash inside the window track. Would there happen to be a spring device in the track attached to the sash? As for the missing piece, was it metal or plastic and what are the dimensions?

The piece is about 3/4" tall and about 2 - 3" wide. It appears to be metal. Its companion on the other side of the window appears to hold up that other side, so I'm thinking that's its purpose where it is currently missing. It grabs on to something hidden inside. Thoughts?

Ah, I see. Would you be able to remove it and send us some additional photos from a few different views and angles?
