Wanting to replace Kinro window channel balances

A quick learner from Helena, Montana says:

Hello,

I am the 3rd owner of a manufactured home built in 2006. I have a set of arched-top and non-tilt windows made by Kinro that I want to replace the channel balances. The left window raises very easily, but takes a lot of effort to close. I weigh close to 200 lbs. and it takes most of my weight to get it to close and then when the locks are closed, the window will move up to the top of the groove the lock fits in. The other window operates better. The width of the channel balances for both windows is 9/16". The left window, that's hard to close, has a channel balance that is 25" long (26 3 BSI RH), while the right window has a channel balance that's 27" long (24 5 BSI PV). The plastic ends on both sets of balances are the same. I have been unable to remove either sash from the frame so I don't know what the weight of the sash is, but it measures 44 ΒΌ" wide by 28 5/8" tall and are vinyl double plane windows. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Kirk

Hi, Kirk.

The balance in your photos looks like our S380 or S385 but the best match depends on your bottom shoe depth. Our Series 380 has a 1" deep shoe, and the Series 385 has a 1-3/32" deep shoe so you'll need to measure as shown below. The metal channel length should also be 27" long for the 26 3 stamped balance and 25" long for the 24 5 stamped one so you'll want to triple check this measurement before proceeding.

To ensure you choose the correct spring strength option, I recommend weighing your sash on a scale once you're able to remove it. There's a chart under the product description on the S380-27 and S385-27 store pages that you can refer to to determine the appropriate spring strength option for your balance.

Emily,

Thank you for your quick response. The bottom shoe depth is 1 3/32". Also, in my two windows I have both a 27" long (2 in the left window) and a 25" long (2 in the right window) channel balances. The 27" channel balances seems to work easier, so I'll order the S385 with the 2640 weight option, since the window weight 26 lbs.

Kirk
