Weather Shield Handle Set Replacement

A friend from Massachusetts says:
the lever and mortise lock from this early 1980's Weather Shield handle set were damaged and removed years ago. Looking for any option to reintroduce a lock to this door, whether replacement parts or new set. One thing that has me confused is the lack of screw holes above and below the mortise. Old lock was secured with through-bolts maybe? Thanks in advance for any assistance

This setup is a little peculiar. I think maybe someone adapted your old door to work with more modern hardware. That does mean this is going to be tricky to replace.

My first thought was to use the 82-244 mortise lock, but the keeper it comes with is a raised type, not flat like you show in your photos.

Another idea is the 82-263 mortise lock, which was used on older Andersen patio doors. This might be the lock that was in your door seeing as how you don't have and mounting screw holes in the edge of the door.

Lastly, look at the 82-227 mortise lock. This was used on Weather Shield patio doors. My hope is that you can adapt it to your door if you're handy.

Take a look at all the locks listed to see if any of these will fit your door. There is no guarantee in each case but they are our best options.
