Weatherstripping 1960s windows

Question

I have a 1962 built home with original sliding aluminum windows. I need to replace the weather stripping as the old weather stripping is shot (I don't think it has been replaced since 1962) and a lot of air seeps in around the window thru the gaps. The weather stripping runs around the frame of the window and under a metal edge that the latch is attached. I can't find any identifier as to the manufacturer of the windows. The weather stripping appears to sit in a shallow channel around the window. My best guess is it is felt or wool pile weather stripping. I was able to remove a small section of it, but it isn't easy to remove. The width of the weather stripping is around 1/4 inch.

What kind of weather stripping is it and how do you remove and install it...especially under the lip that had the window lock?

Thanks for reaching out to us. Looking at your aluminum window, you should be able to remove the screw at the corner of the sash frame. What you can do to remove the screw is gently tap the frame apart using a block of wood. Be careful not to damage the glass or the window frame.
