What are these clips?

Home Owner from California
I just received my new window balances for my single hung windows. As I put one of them in, the plastic top of the balance broke off as I lifted the window. The window sash has a lot of movement side to side. I notice that it is missing some small gray clips that are on other windows but I cannot find out what these are called and if they are indeed the problem. Could you please tell me what they are called, do you sell them and how do you install them?
Thanks.

Based on what you describe, I don't think this little clip is the issue. I can't imagine that a face guide like this would lead to a balance breaking. It sounds like it might have been a problem with the spring strength. Did the stamp option you selected for the broken balance match the weight of the sash?

The balance is correct for the window weight. I think this clip prevents side to side movement of the window. There are 4 of these clips on most of my windows but this one is missing them. Several other windows are missing one or two. What are they called and where do I get them?
Thanks

Well, they're called face guides. I don't know exactly what yours is without seeing it out of the window, but you can see our complete selection here

Face guides do help a window's operation but I still don't see how lacking one could cause a balance to break like you described. I highly suspect there's something else at work, I just can't be sure what it is. If you can find a face guide that matches yours, let me know if it fixes your issue. If not, we can try to work from there to find a solution.
