What does the tip color of a spiral balance mean? Are shoes interchangeable?

1) For a tube spiral balance on a tilt window, what's the difference between one with the green tip and one with the red tip?
2) For a 3/8" Diameter Tube Balance with red tip, I see you have about three kinds of 3/8" Pivot Shoes available on your web site. Does that mean I can choose any one of them?

Color tips signify how strong the spring is. You would need to weigh your sash to confirm which is the best one. Which Series were you looking at? What is the length of your tube?
As for the pivot shoe, you can't use just anything. If we have more than one related, then they just represent a couple different possibilities. You need to remove your pivot shoe from the window and compare our dimensions and pictures to your own to confirm which is the best match.
